Saurimo – At least 264 diverse unexploded ordnance devices were removed in the section of the new ring road in the city of Saurimo, Lunda Sul province, by the National Demining Institute (INAD), ANGOP learned this Sunday.
According to the head of department of INAD in the province, Fidel Batista, these are anti-tank mines, anti-personnel, rpg7 weapons, buzz, small-caliber ammunition, 60 and 80 MM projectiles and various metals.
The demining of the section will allow the local government to build a ring road, to decongest road traffic concentrated in a single lane and expand circulation throughout the city, allowing for greater fluidity in mobility.
It will also enable the construction of 300 houses for the population residing in that area.
The source informed that the work to remove the explosive devices began in April of the current year, having already been cleared in that section 35 kilometers, with four more to go.
The new ring road in the city of Saurimo will have the characteristics of a highway. It will be three kilometers long and two lanes 12 meters wide each, roundabouts, berms and four bridges over the Candembe, Nhama, Txahungo and Luari rivers.
The project is being built near the Chicapa River, crossing the National Road 180 (Saurimo/Luena), going to the head of the Deolinda Rodrigues Airport, and connecting the Saurimo/Muconda road.
