Luanda:Defending champion Petro de Luanda launched its African Women's Handball Champions League title defense with a decisive 37-20 victory over Benin's Flowers in a Group B match at the Kilamba Multipurpose Pavilion. According to Angola Press News Agency, Petro de Luanda took control from the start, employing a relentless defensive strategy that disrupted Flowers' offensive play and initiated an early 15-4 run. Under the guidance of head coach Luis Chaves, Petro maintained pressure throughout the first half, extending their lead to 24-12 by halftime. In response to Flowers' attempts to regroup in the second half, Petro kept its hold on the game, allowing Chaves to rotate his players and provide valuable experience to reserves. Leticia Costa of Petro de Luanda was named the match's Most Valuable Player due to her outstanding performance. With this victory, Petro de Luanda secured two points, sharing the top position in Group B with the Democratic Republic of Congo's Heritage, which also won its opening ma tch. Flowers and Angola's Casa Pessoal do Porto do Lobito remain at the bottom of the group without any points.
