PRESIDENT BACKS DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM SECTOR

Luanda – Angolan head of State João Lourenço called for the need to develop the tourism sector and raise it to the level of its real potential. Speaking at the swearing in ceremony of the new minister of Culture and Tourism and Environment, Filipe Zau, the president said called for the need to place tourism at the level of the potential that Angola has in the sector, but acknowledged that it is one of the underdeveloped branches of the Angolan economy. Filipe Silva de Pina Zau replaces Jomo Francisco Isabel de Carvalho Fortunato, who was dismissed last Thursday, for service convenience. According to the results of a study carried out by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), in 2019, the tourism sector represented around 3 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
