PRESIDENT HOPES ANGOLA BECOME WORLD TOURIST DESTINATION

Luanda – The Angolan President, João Lourenço, Wednesday in Madrid requested the support of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for the development of the tourism sector in Angola.

President João Lourenço, who visited the headquarters of the United Nations agency in Madrid, said he hoped that Angola would become an important tourist destination in the world.

On the last day of his official visit to the Kingdom of Spain, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation, the Angolan Head of State met with the UNWTO Secretary-General, Zurab Pololikashvili.

He said that Angola had great potential in the tourism sector, currently asleep, “which needs your contribution to make Angola an important tourist destination in the world.

According to João Lourenço, alongside the development of agriculture, the other sector of the economy that he considers fundamental in this effort of economic diversification is, without a shadow of a doubt, tourism.

“We have beautiful beaches, extensive areas of our coast and the possibility of developing rural tourism (…)”, said the President of the Republic.

He reminded that during his stay in Washington DC (USA), before landing in the Spanish capital, agreements were signed with organisations linked to nature conservation.
