President Joao Louren§o Urges Timely Completion of Muxima Projects

Muxima: President Joao Louren§o has called for strict adherence to the deadlines set for the construction of the Basilica and Sanctuary of Our Lady of Muxima, located in the province of Icolo e Bengo. This directive was issued during his recent visit to Muxima, marking his second visit to the site within a year, following an earlier visit in June.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the Icolo e Bengo provincial governor, Auzlio Jacob, shared details of the President's visit. The basilica and sanctuary are being developed in the municipality of Qui§ama. Governor Jacob emphasized that the President highlighted the necessity to meet the project deadlines, particularly now that challenges related to relocating residents to the new Coxe neighborhood have been addressed.

Jacob noted that all stakeholders, including the municipal administration, provincial government, Ministries of Energy, Water, and Construction, as well as contractors, are expected to meet the completion timeline by the end of 2026 or early 2027. He also detailed the extensive infrastructure plans associated with the project, such as the Christ the King monument, a heliport, an 11-kilometer road linking Muxima to the new Coxe neighborhood, and various hospitality and utility facilities.

Attention is also being directed towards improving roads to enhance connectivity between the north and south of the country. This includes facilitating access to Dr. Antonio Agostinho Neto International Airport without traversing Luanda province. Jacob cited the development of National Road 110, which extends from Muxima to several communes, with branches leading to Cabo Ledo and Porto Ambum in Cuanza Sul province.
