Luanda – The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, Wednesday visited the Isabel II Water Channel, a public company responsible for the management of the complete water cycle for the community of Madrid.
Accompanied by the Angolan Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, the Head of State watched a video that portrays the operation of the canal, water treatment and supply.
During the guided visit, Lourenço toured the laboratories for physical, chemical, solid, sludge, metal and microbiological analyses, as well as the chromatography sample laboratory.
The Canal de Isabel II is responsible for managing all water resource processes, namely water capture, treatment, distribution, sanitation, purification and reuse.
Since 1984, the canal has been a fully state-run water company, dependent on the Community of Madrid.
It has more than 2,800 employees and provides services to more than six million people in all the works involved in the water cycle; 2/3 of the company belongs to the Community of Madrid and 1/3 to the different municipalities, to which it distributes water and provides services.
More than six million Madrid people open their taps daily to obtain an essential resource through this water company.
