President Joo Louren§o Embarks on Strategic 48-Hour Visit to Zaire Province

Zaire: President Joo Louren§o commenced a 48-hour working visit to the province of Zaire. Upon arrival on Wednesday, he was greeted at the local airport by the provincial governor, Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, along with other state officials.

According to Angola Press News Agency, during his visit, President Louren§o is set to chair the 1st Ordinary Meeting of the Local Governance Council on Thursday. Additionally, he will inspect the ongoing construction site of the airport and visit the Mbanza Congo General Hospital. This hospital, with a capacity of 290 beds, is located on the outskirts of Mbanza Congo and features comprehensive medical services including physiotherapy, hemodialysis, and more.

Spanning an area of 27,000 square meters, the hospital project represents an investment of US$87.85 million. Initially launched in 2014 and resumed in June 2022, the construction has provided employment for a thousand workers and is anticipated to reach completion within the next 15 months. The facility will feature a variety of medical and support services spread across two floors, dedicated to outpatient care and surgical procedures.

The province of Zaire covers 40,130 square kilometers with a population of 682,258. It borders the Atlantic Ocean, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the provinces of U­ge and Bengo, encompassing several municipalities, including Mbanza Kongo and Soyo.
