Luanda: Angolan President and Chairperson of the African Union, Joo Louren§o, highlighted the historical and current contribution of African women to the construction of a peaceful, prosperous, and developed Africa. This statement was made on Thursday in a message released for the African Women's Day celebrations.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the President recalled that African Women's Day originated from the 1962 Conference of African Women in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, which was pivotal in raising awareness of women's crucial role in Africa's progress. Joo Louren§o emphasized the importance of commemorating the courageous women who played significant roles in the independence movements of African countries, the fight against apartheid, and numerous other battles to restore the dignity of the continent's people.
The President noted that current times demonstrate the success of African women's struggle for full inclusion in various aspects of their countries, recognizing them as key pillars in nation-building. He acknowledged their roles as mothers and educators, shaping future generations with African values such as generosity, respect, and solidarity, which are vital for building an inclusive and harmonious continent.
Joo Louren§o reaffirmed the commitment of political, business, and social leaders to implementing policies that ensure the full emancipation of African women. The message concluded with a call to celebrate African women as essential agents of peace and development.
