Luanda: Angolan President Joo Louren§o returned to the country on Sunday following a state visit to Brazil, aimed at reinvigorating cooperation between the two nations.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the visit to Brasilia, upon the invitation of Brazilian President Lula da Silva, highlighted the reinforcement of ties between the traditionally allied countries. The discussions held at the Planalto Palace, the official presidential residence in the capital, centered on evaluating the current state of bilateral cooperation, with a focus on pivotal developmental sectors.
During the visit, Angola and Brazil consolidated their bilateral relations through the signing of several new legal agreements across various sectors. The nations formalized three memorandums of understanding, along with a significant project aimed at enhancing agricultural and forestry research institutions to support the sustainable development of semi-arid regions. This agreement was overseen by both Presidents Joo Louren§o and Lula da Silva.
The agricultural initiative is designed to bolster family farming in southern Angola by developing and tailoring production technologies suited to local conditions. In the economic realm, a noteworthy Memorandum of Understanding on research and development was also signed. This agreement outlines the framework through which Angolan oil company Sonangol and Brazilian counterpart Petrobras will explore opportunities and develop collaborations in research, development, and innovation, particularly in the sectors of renewable energy, oil and gas, technology, and communication.
In the fulfillment of the program, in Brazil, Joo Louren§o met with the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Brazil, with whom he talked about the agenda of the Presidency of Angola in the African Union
