Luanda: The Pan African Organization for the Economic and Sustainable Development of African States (POSDEV) aims to strengthen the articulation between young African leaders and national governments, focusing on promoting the continent's economic independence.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the intention was expressed by the vice-president of the POSDEV General Assembly, Robert Tonissayt, during the ordinary session of the Continental General Assembly. This session was specifically aimed at enhancing the collaboration between young African leaders and national governments to further economic independence.
Speaking to Angop, Robert Tonissayt emphasized that POSDEV continues the legacy of leaders who fought for Africa's political emancipation, now shifting focus towards economic and sustainable development across African nations. He highlighted that POSDEV was founded by young Africans from countries such as Angola, Mozambique, Congo-Brazzaville, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Namibia, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Sao Tome and Principe, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Conakry, Sudan, Ghana, Western Sahara, and Zimbabwe, all united by the shared objective of achieving economic independence for the continent.
Tonissayt pointed out that a key theme of the meeting was fostering collaboration with legitimate governments to create alternative and sustainable solutions to the economic challenges facing the region. Additionally, there is a proposal to establish a joint platform with African governments aimed at institutional recognition by the African Union, as well as securing international funding for development projects, particularly in rural areas.
He further revealed that almost all African countries are now associated with POSDEV, with internal representations established in Angola, Mozambique, Namibia, Cape Verde (currently in the process of legalization), and Ghana. Other countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo and Congo-Brazzaville are also in the process of officially integrating into the organization's structure.
POSDEV was founded on May 25, 2021, in Maputo, Mozambique, a date that coincides with the anniversary of the African Union's creation.
The institution was born from the initiative of a group of former African-graduated Cuba and intends to expand its acting network and partnerships throughout the continent.
