President Joo Louren§o Warns of Risk of Global Catastrophe Without Multilateralism

New york: Angolan President Joo Louren§o on Tuesday in New York said that only the strengthening of multilateralism can save the world from a "hecatomb", in the face of the growing uncertainties and tensions. The statesman made this statement while speaking in the general debate of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, where he pointed out that, 80 years after the foundation of the UN and after the end of the Cold War, it was expected that the world would be living in a safer and more predictable environment, which is not confirmed today.

According to Angola Press News Agency, President Louren§o recalled that, until 1991, the planet experienced a sharp division between two ideological blocs, a situation which, although tense, offered a framework less likely to escalate into a generalized confrontation. He emphasized that this retrospective should not lead to the idea that global stability is only possible in a framework of rigid divisions, but rather to the construction of a balance of interests and shared concerns on matters of global security.

For the Angolan Head of State, only the path of multilateralism can generate complementarities and convergences of all kinds, safeguarding world security and peace.
