Dundo: Miguel Vemba, director of mining operations and holdings at Angola's state-owned diamond company, ENDIAMA EP, announced that the company is striving to establish a unique identity for Angolan diamonds. This initiative is part of an effort to meet global standards and manage the cost per carat effectively. According to Angola Press News Agency, Vemba revealed this plan during a press briefing at the bi-annual diamond production review meeting held in Dundo, Lunda Norte province. He emphasized that the goal is to elevate Angola's reputation by ensuring the excellence of its diamonds and distinguishing them from others in the market. By creating a distinct identity for its diamonds, Angola aims to trace their origins and mitigate the competitive pressure from synthetic products. The ongoing meeting serves as a platform to evaluate the adherence to the objectives outlined in the National Development Plan. It also focuses on identifying transparent and effective methods to enhance production capabilities. The three-day event has gathered representatives from 19 mining companies to deliberate on strategies for regulating and structuring the cost per carat of diamonds produced, in response to the declining prices in the global market. Vemba stated, "We will pursue transparent initiatives to optimise production, ensuring the sustainability of the subsector." ENDIAMA currently oversees 54 exploration and restructuring projects, along with 25 operating mining companies. The company projects that it will generate 2.27 billion US dollars in gross revenue this year from the production of 15.13 million carats of diamonds, surpassing the 1.5 billion collected in 2024, when production reached 14.08 million carats.
