President Louren§o Urges Angolans to Unite for National Development

Luanda: President Joo Louren§o urged all Angolans to collaborate for the socio-economic advancement of the country, emphasizing that 'partisan squabbles should not consume the time and energy of the population and institutions'. He made this appeal on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of National Independence, reflecting on the historical journey towards a free and sovereign Angola.

According to Angola Press News Agency, President Louren§o revisited the significant milestones that marked Angola's history, noting the overcoming of 500 years of colonization, slavery, and humiliation, culminating in the country's Independence in 1975. He highlighted the pivotal defeat of the apartheid regime's army in Cuito Cuanavale, which played a role in democratizing South Africa, achieving Namibia's Independence, and ending Angola's internal armed conflict 23 years ago.

President Louren§o emphasized that with these challenges behind them, the focus should now be on economic strengthening, job creation, educational investment, and social well-being promotion. He called for efforts to reduce illiteracy, reintegrate children into schools, and enhance teacher training. Furthermore, he advocated for economic diversification, encouraging private and cooperative sectors to boost goods, services, and export products.

The President underscored the importance of recognizing and rewarding individuals who contribute to development, including researchers, entrepreneurs, startup promoters, and food producers. He stressed that these sectors generate employment and wealth, essential for national progress.

Highlighting the collective responsibility, President Louren§o stated, 'We all need to work harder and better. Progress and development do not come only from the government's actions, but also from the collective and combined effort of the whole society.' He called for civic responsibility and a unified effort from all Angolans.

The President concluded by stressing that this moment demands unity, action, and entrepreneurship, with the collective goal of building a better, fairer, and more prosperous country.
