Luanda: Angolan President Joao Lourenco appointed Domingos da Costa Mesquita as the new vice-president of the Supreme Court and named Osvaldo dos Santos Varela as ambassador to Turkey, presidential decrees showed on Tuesday. According to Angola Press News Agency, Mesquita's appointment follows his election by the Superior Council of the Judiciary on September 10, where he secured 14 votes from his peers, surpassing candidates Artur Domingos Gunza and Anabela Couto de Castro Valente, who received seven and three votes respectively. In a separate decree, the president named Osvaldo dos Santos Varela, a former ambassador to Israel and previous secretary of state for foreign affairs, to head the diplomatic mission in Turkey.
