President recommends harder work to retool Angolan Navy

Luanda – The head of State João Lourenço recommended Friday the new commander of the Angolan Navy greater commitment to ensure new momentum in the process of re-equipment of this branch of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA).

João Lourenço, also Commander-in-Chief of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), was speaking at the swearing in ceremony of Admiral Valentim Alberto António, the new head of the Angolan Navy.

“We are counting on you in the project to re-equip the Navy, with a view to putting it up to the great challenges of a country that has thousands of kilometers of coastline”, said the Head of State.

João Lourenço stressed that the new commander of the Angolan Navy is an experienced member with an enviable career that can help improve projects for the development of the branch.

In his statements to the press, Admiral Valentim António said that the focus will be on working to improve the performance of the Navy in defence of the national waters, with stress to combat piracy, pollution and misdemeanor at sea.

Admiral Valentim António is taking over from General Jorge Manuel dos Santos “Sukissa”, who died of illness in July this year.
