President returns to Luanda after visiting Huambo

Luanda – The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, returned to Luanda, Saturday afternoon after a two-day working visit to Huambo province.

There, the Head of State inaugurated the Bailundo power plant on Friday and witnessed the inauguration of the Belém power sub-station by Energy and Water Minister, João Baptista Borges.

On Saturday morning, as leader of MPLA, Lourenço presided over a mass demonstration outside Albano Machado Airport in the city of Huambo.

During the event, Joao Lourenço promised, amongst other actions, more work in the near future to build more schools, hospitals and houses.

He recalled that the state had reduced value added tax (VAT) from 14 percent to 7 percent, as well as raising the minimum wage and civil service salaries.

The President of the Republic also announced that, as of this year, the country would start producing 30,000 barrels per day of oil transformed into diesel, gasoline and other refined products.

At the end of his speech, Lourenço announced the construction of a football stadium in Huambo province.
