Luanda – Angolan head of State João Lourenço Thursday (29) discussed with his Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) counterpart Félix Tshisekedi the peace in the eastern region of the central African country.
During a telephone conversation, the two statesmen focused on the decisions from the recent Washington mini-summit, which sets the creation of conditions for implementation of the Luanda Roadmap goals.
The Luanda Roadmap is the result of the regional mini-summit held in November in the Angolan capital, which adopted a Plan of Action for peace in DRC and to ensure the normalization of the country’s relations with Rwanda.
The initiative was attended by the heads of State (or their representatives) of Angola João Lourenço, Burundi Évariste Ndayishimiye, DRC Félix Antoine Tshisekedi.
It also gathered the minister of foreign affairs of Rwanda Vincent Biruta, as well as the former Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta, the latter who participated as peace facilitator for the east of the DRC, appointed by the East African Community (EAC).
The meeting was convened by President Lourenço, in his capacity as African Union (AU) mediator, aimed to seek path to resolve the crisis on the DRC-Rwanda border.
