Luanda: The CEO of PRODEL, Pedro Afonso, announced on Friday that 13 generator sets, which have been out of service for three months at the Chibodo Thermal Power Plant in Cabinda, are set to be repaired by September. The announcement comes as part of PRODEL's efforts to restore full functionality to the power plant, aiming to enhance electricity supply in the region. According to Angola Press News Agency, Pedro Afonso revealed that out of the 18 generator sets that constitute the Chibodo Thermal Power Plant, only five are currently operational. These generators provide an installed capacity of 30.8 Megawatts. To address this, PRODEL has procured essential circuit breakers, protection panels, and other spare parts required for the repair of the 13 non-operational generator sets, each with a capacity of 1.7 Megawatts. The parts are expected to arrive in Cabinda shortly. Pedro Afonso emphasized that the primary goal of these repairs is to ensure that families in the region have reliable access to quality elect ricity. Additionally, he highlighted that Cabinda's main electricity generation infrastructure, the Malembo Thermal Power Plant, which has an installed capacity of 145 Megawatts, is currently supplying 85 Megawatts due to technical constraints.
