PRODESA Set to Launch in November Across Multiple Angolan Provinces

Luanda:The Sustainable Family Farming Development Project, known as PRODESA, is scheduled to commence in November, targeting the provinces of Lunda Norte, Lunda Sul, Moxico, Moxico-Leste, Bié, Cuando, and Cubango. The initiative aims to enhance agricultural development within these regions.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the national deputy coordinator of the project, João Domingos, disclosed that the project will focus on promoting agricultural and economic development. PRODESA is part of a broader strategy by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to transition subsistence agriculture into robust agri-food systems that are in line with the domestic market demands.

The project is designed to reduce multidimensional poverty in rural communities, particularly in the Eastern and Southern regions of Angola, by fostering sustainable production initiatives that aim to secure food and nutritional stability. The project's first phase, which kicked off in 2025, is set to continue until 2030, with financial backing from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) amounting to USD 73 million.

PRODESA aims to assist approximately 96,350 families, involving 462,480 individuals, and to support 2,250 young people in agribusiness entrepreneurship. In Lunda-Norte, the implementation will occur in the municipalities of Dundo, Chitato, Caungula, Lóvua, Mussungue, and Capenda-Camulemba.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry recently held a seminar from the 19th to the 23rd of the current month in Lunda-Norte, focusing on modern rural extension techniques. The event saw the participation of 84 heads of Agricultural Development Stations (EDA) and extension workers from the involved provinces. Following this seminar, 127 EDA officers will be responsible for operationalizing PRODESA across 31 municipalities, with duties including energizing Field Schools and improving agricultural practices to boost development and production.
