Luanda:The Angolan Food Bank against Hunger has launched the "Realimenta" initiative, aiming to expand food collection and distribution to vulnerable families and social solidarity institutions nationwide. The program seeks to surpass the historical average of 8,000 tons of food collected per campaign, targeting approximately 200,000 tons to better assist at-risk populations.
According to Angola Press News Agency, organization president Henriques Nunes announced that the initial food batches collected under "Realimenta" will be directed to patients and families at Divina Providência Hospital in Golfe 1, Luanda. Nunes also highlighted the need for tax exemptions on surplus food donations to recognized charities, which could significantly increase food collections and combat waste.
The initiative is supported by Deloitte and BFA Capital Markets, with Deloitte providing a refrigerated transport vehicle for safe handling of perishables. José Barata, president of Deloitte Angola, emphasized the consultancy's commitment to community impact, having supported social initiatives impacting 250,000 people in Angola over the past 12 years.
Odair Costa, president of BFA Capital Markets, pointed out the partnership's focus on addressing nutritional deficits among Angolan families, especially children. Last year, BFA Capital Markets raised 16 million Kwanza for refrigeration and kitchen equipment for the Food Bank and is currently mobilizing 20 million Kwanza for nutrition and reconstruction projects at the SOS Children's Village in Benguela.
The Food Bank presently supports around 26 institutions across Angola, primarily benefiting users in Luanda, Benguela, Lubango, Malanje, and Cabinda, with a strong emphasis on children's centers and nursing homes managed by parishes and Catholic organizations.
