Luanda: Journalists at public media outlets are set to receive a 27% salary adjustment starting in October, as announced by the Secretary of State for Social Communication, Nuno Caldas Albino, during a press briefing in Luanda.
According to Angola Press News Agency, this adjustment marks the beginning of a series of increases, with another 31% increase in career progression scheduled for January of the following year, totaling a 58% increase. In specific instances, salary hikes for media professionals could reach 75%, particularly for core staff working in the company's main operational areas.
The proposal for updating salaries was initiated by the Boards of Directors of public media companies. Nuno Caldas Albino highlighted that the government presented a proposal that aligns with their current financial capabilities, underscoring a focus on human capital. Initiatives are being developed to enhance the working, social, and financial conditions of media professionals.
The meeting held on September 2nd by the Angolan Journalists' Union (SJA) to consider the possibility of a strike was also addressed. Nuno Caldas emphasized that calling a strike is a legal right and affirmed that dialogue with representatives of the profession will remain open.
