Luanda: The Angolan Ministry of Public Works, Urbanism and Housing (MINOPUH) is set to commence the rehabilitation of a 41-kilometre stretch of National Road (EN)100 in Cabo Ledo Municipality, Icolo e Bengo Province. The project is slated to begin in the coming days and will extend from the bridge over the Kwanza River to the municipal headquarters of Cabo Ledo. The construction will span 36 months and will be executed by Hiperm¡quinas Angola Ltda at a cost of AOA 59,508,000,000.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Minister of Public Works, Urbanism and Housing, Carlos Alberto dos Santos, emphasized that all necessary technical and financial resources have been secured to ensure the seamless execution of the project. The road is deemed strategically important as it connects multiple provinces and accommodates approximately 2,300 vehicles daily.
Minister dos Santos highlighted the road's significance as part of a larger network extending over 1,800 kilometres along Angola's coastline from the capital, Luanda. To further enhance accessibility, he announced plans to dual EN100 from Cabo Longo to Barra do Kwanza in 2027.
In addition to the rehabilitation, a comprehensive road maintenance programme will be initiated. This will cover the stretch from the Kwanza River bridge to Cabo Ledo and further extend to the Longa River bridge, covering 120.75 kilometres. Subsequently, the programme will continue from the Longa River bridge to the Queve River bridge and onto Sumbe, the capital of Cuanza-Sul Province, cumulatively covering 215 kilometres.
Carlos Alberto dos Santos also mentioned the recent launch of a priority programme on National Road 105 and revealed upcoming works on Roads 100, 120, 230, 225, and other key corridors. He noted that approximately 12,000 kilometres of roads in the primary and priority networks have been paved, with about 15,000 kilometres paved within the secondary network.
The minister stated the importance of consistent maintenance and conservation programmes for the 27,000 kilometres of roads to enhance durability and reliability. The ongoing projects are expected to create a total of 1,215 jobs at peak implementation.
The contract handover ceremony was graced by the presence of Auzlio Jacob, Governor of Icolo e Bengo Province, along with members of his administration.
