Malanje: The vice-president of the Angolan Paralympic Committee (CPA), Isabel Major, announced in Malanje that the athletics track in Quéssua has the potential to host large-scale sports events, contingent on necessary improvements and optimal utilization. According to Angola Press News Agency, Isabel Major highlighted the track's promise as a sports venue capable of accommodating not only Paralympic competitions but a broader spectrum of athletic events. Her comments came during the closing ceremony of the 25th national track and field championships, which took place at the venue from the 15th to the 17th of this month. Despite being an adapted surface, the track has already been used by the CPA for both local and national competitions. Isabel Major offered a positive evaluation of the recently concluded championships, noting the high level of organization and competitiveness. The event also marked a milestone by including athletes from the Special Olympics, thanks to a new partnership. José Manuel, the event director, echoed these sentiments, praising the athletes' performances, which included national records and notable achievements by emerging distance runners. Meanwhile, the national coach revealed that Angola is set to participate in the World Championship in India, scheduled for late September to early October. Athletes Regina Dum and Juliana Moco will represent the T11 category from the provinces of Huambo and Benguela. However, the coach expressed regret that only two Angolan athletes qualified for the world competition, underscoring the need for extensive preparation to surpass previous results. In recent national competitions, the province of Bié emerged victorious in the men's category, securing nine gold, three silver, and five bronze medals. Luanda followed in second place with eight gold, eight silver, and six bronze medals, while Cuanza Norte claimed third place with five gold, four silver, and four bronze medals. In the women's category, Luanda province was crowned champion, winning 10 go ld, five silver, and three bronze medals. Bié and Huambo took second and third places, respectively. The competition saw participation from over 100 athletes representing the provinces of Malanje, Lunda Sul, Lunda Norte, Moxico, Cuanza Norte, Bié, Luanda, Uíge, and Huambo, featuring races in distances from 100 to 1500 meters, as well as field events like shot put, javelin, and discus.
