Quipungo Railway Station Boosts Agri-Livestock Trade

Quipungo: Over 50 tons of agricultural goods and various livestock are transported every week from the station of the MoçSmedes Railway (CFM) in the municipality of Quipungo, Huila, demonstrating its importance in the trade of local agricultural and livestock production. The station serves as a key depot for national production, facilitating the movement of cereals, oilseeds, small cattle, beef, sugar cane, potatoes, and other goods to different regions. It connects Lubango, via neighboring Chicungo and Matala, with an average of 120 passengers a day, mostly foreign traders and local producers. According to Angola Press News Agency, businesswoman Palmira Solochi emphasized that the station not only transports people but also acts as a logistical corridor for agricultural products and livestock. Martins Mariano noted that the station serves as a marketplace where producers meet buyers from across the country, trading in beans, maize, cattle, chickens, and goats, among other goods. The MoçSmedes Railway (CFM ) has indicated its readiness to meet the demands of agricultural producers for transporting local produce. Additionally, the CFM manages the transportation of at least 14,440 tons of cargo, including granite, fuel, and lubricants, on the Lubango/Namibe stretch and vice versa each month.
