Kindege: The road traffic between the municipalities of Kindege and Nzeto, in the province of Zaire, has been suspended since the weekend due to damages caused by heavy rain in the town of Kimakuku.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the hydraulic crossing, which was built more than two decades ago, was destroyed by the heavy rains that recently affected this newly established municipality under the country's new Political-Administrative Division. The governor of Zaire, Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, who recently assessed the damage on the approximately 120 km road section, stated that efforts are underway to restore traffic between the two municipalities.
The governor noted that the route has been undergoing deforestation works since November of last year, and cautioned that other issues may arise due to the lack of interventions over time. Following the deforestation, earthmoving work is planned, extending to the village of Quimaria, which borders the municipality of Bembe in the Uge province.
Adriano Mendes de Carvalho urged the population to remain calm while the situation is being addressed. Contractor Gomes Gabriel, from the company TEA, confirmed that equipment and materials have already begun to be mobilized on site for an urgent intervention.
The municipality of Kindege, with an estimated population of more than 10,000 inhabitants, is primarily agricultural, producing crops like cassava, peanuts, bananas, beans, corn, yam potatoes, and citrus fruits.
