Cuito – The Republic of Romania intends to invest in the diamond sector, with the installation of diamond exploration industries in Nharêa Municipality, central Bié Province.
The fact was announced this Wednesday, in Cuito city, by the Romanian ambassador to Angola, Florim Tudorie, as part of a three-day working visit to Bié province, with the aim of verifying the potential in the area of diamonds and others.
The diplomat said that the Romanian businesspeople embraced the initiative to invest in the exploration of diamonds and other strategic minerals that the region has, in order to contribute to socioeconomic growth.
Without disclosing an exact amount for the investment as well as the time to start the explorations, the ambassador said that they are structural projects, with estimated amount ranging from 3 to 50 million US dollars, and will count on the help of the Romanian Government.
Apart from diamonds, the diplomat that his country also intends to invest in other areas, with emphasis on Agriculture and renewable energy, in order to contribute to sustainable development and generates jobs, especially for nationals.
“Romania has a large corn production capacity and is on the list of the main wheat exporters in the European Union, with a very advanced technological capacity for transformation, experience that can be passed on to local producers,” he said.
The governor of Bié, Pereira Alfredo, after having a meeting with the diplomat, praised the Romanian Government’s initiative in mobilizing businesspeople and establishing an agreement with local authorities, which could strengthen the region’s economy for the benefit of the population.
Pereira Alfredo hopes for an extended cooperation in other essential areas, taking into account the potential of the province. “We are open to foreign investment, the Government guarantees all institutional support to countries accredited in Angola”, he said.
Bie Province is located in central part of the country and has a total area of 70.314km2. it is comprised by nine municipalities, namely : Cuito (capital city), Andulo, Catabola, Chinguar, Chitembo, Camacupa, Cunhinga, Cuemba and Nharea.
Bie has roughly 1.7 million inhabitants; most of them are peasants.
