Sumbe:Cuanza-Sul At least six people lost their lives, and 16 others were injured when a minibus traveling north collided with a stationary truck on National Highway 100 in Angola's Cuanza-Sul province. The incident occurred early Sunday morning, according to local authorities.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the crash happened at around 220 a.m. in the Capango locality within the Gangula municipality. The minibus reportedly collided with an unlit truck that was stalled on the road without proper hazard signaling. Preliminary investigations by Acting Cuanza-Sul governor Carlos Albino suggest that human error, including excessive speed and lack of driver caution, were significant factors in the accident.
Five passengers died instantly at the scene, and 17 others were transported to the General Hospital of Cuanza-Sul Comandante Raul Diaz Arguellez in Sumbe. One victim succumbed to injuries shortly after arrival. Dr. Carlos Manuel, the hospital's clinical director, confirmed that 16 survivors remain hospitalized, including 12 adults and four children. Seven of these patients are in serious condition, suffering from severe head trauma, bone fractures, and abdominal injuries.
In response to the tragedy, Governor Albino expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and promised provincial support for logistics and communication. He also urged motorists to comply with traffic laws. Local authorities have announced plans to enhance road safety by increasing police patrols and improving road signage as part of ongoing rehabilitation efforts along the EN100 highway.
