Six People Die from Electric Shocks in Bie Province

Bie: At least six people were killed and one person was injured on Tuesday in the Nharêa municipality of Bie province, after being hit by an electrical discharge, ANGOP learnt on Wednesday. The victims were all male and aged between six and 60. According to Angola Press News Agency, Vasco Chioca, the spokesperson of the Civil Protection and Firefighters (SPCB), stated that the incidents occurred in the village of Dondi, in the commune of Cayeye. In the first incident, three people were killed when a hut made of local materials caught fire after being struck by lightning. The other three fatalities were struck while carrying out agricultural activities. The injured person, who was also working in the fields, is receiving medical care at the Cayeye health centre. Over the past 24 hours, it has rained across almost the entire province of Bie, causing damage to both people and property. In January of this year, three people died in lightning strikes, all of them teenagers: two in Cuito and one in Chinguar. In 2025, 31 people died and 50 were injured by lightning in the province of Bie.
