Luanda: The Minister of Youth and Sports, Rui Falco, on Wednesday said that young people are the driving force behind Angola's future, bringing energy, talent, and courage. He added that sport represents discipline, inclusion, identity, and collective pride.
According to Angola Press News Agency, in a message sent to ANGOP for the Sports Ministry's 37th anniversary, the minister stated that the celebration marks a national mission and the Angolan State's historical commitment to the present and future of youth and sport. The message further highlights that the Ministry of Youth and Sports was created to be an instrument of transformation, inclusion, and human development. Despite facing challenges and experiencing changes, the ministry has served, elevated, and projected youth and sport as strategic pillars of national development throughout its journey.
The minister paid tribute to everyone who contributed to building the ministry, including former leaders, technicians, collaborators, partners, youth associations, federations, clubs, and athletes. He acknowledged that each step has contributed to consolidating a structure that must remain connected to the people, young people, and communities.
The minister also emphasized that Angola will only be truly great if its youth are prepared to lead, work, and build, finding in sport the means to overcome challenges, merit, and a winning spirit. The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Angola was formally established as a ministerial portfolio on 11 February 1989. Its evolution began in 1976 with the establishment of the General Directorate of Physical Education and Sport within the Ministry of Education. It then underwent various changes, including becoming the State Secretariat for Physical Education and Sports (SEEFD) in 1979, before assuming its current form.
