Sonangol Quenguela drillship reaches Angola

Luanda – “Sonangol Quenguela” drillship has docked recently in the maritime waters of Angola, a source from the Sonangola oil company told ANGOP.

Ordered by Sonangol in May 2019 at the shipyard of Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co. (DSME), in South Korea, the drillship will be managed by Sonadrill, the joint venture between the national oil company and Sea drill.

Sonangol Quenguela is the second of the two Sonangol-owned drillships to be bareboat chartered into Sonadrill.

“The drillship is a 7th generation, DP3, dual activity, e-smart ultra-deepwater drillship delivered in 2019, capable of drilling up to 40,000 ft wells.

“The arrival of the drillships is generating several jobs in the oil sector and a great opportunity for young Angolans,” reads the publication by EDACO, an institution that works for the innovation and industrialisation of education to increase the human development index in Africa.

The overall contract is expected to worth about USD131 million (including mobilisation revenue and additional services), from February 2022 to 2023.

Total continues its investments in the national oil sector making investments in upstream and downstream that have generated several jobs.

The company managed to advance with prospecting projects in the new oil fields or blocks at the time of the crisis.
