South Korea Ambassador Highlights Growing Ties with Angola

Luanda: The new Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Angola, Byong-Jo Kang, emphasized the strengthening relations between South Korea and Angola, despite the geographical distance between them. The South Korean diplomat made these remarks after presenting his Letters of Credence to Angolan President Joo Louren§o, officially accrediting him as the representative of Korea to Angola.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Ambassador Byong-Jo Kang is the 7th Ambassador of South Korea to Angola. He remarked that the two nations are becoming "increasingly close friends," with cultural exchanges playing a significant role in this growing relationship. The ambassador noted the interest of many young Angolans in South Korean culture, particularly in the global musical trend K-pop, which has seen a rise in popularity among Angolan youth.

Ambassador Kang also identified Angola as a country with significant potential and expressed his commitment to enhancing cooperation between the two nations throughout his tenure. He stressed his intention to further strengthen these ties, focusing on multiple sectors including education, health, vocational training, institutional development, technology, innovation, and economic growth.

The collaboration between Angola and South Korea includes development cooperation initiatives facilitated by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). These initiatives encompass technical assistance, staff training, infrastructure and equipment support, scholarships, and expert exchanges.

In the economic sector, Angola aims to leverage South Korea's technological capabilities and experience to drive economic diversification, industrialization, infrastructure development, and digital transformation. The expertise of South Korea in innovation, industry, and digital technologies presents opportunities for deepening bilateral cooperation.

Culturally, the increasing popularity of K-pop and South Korean media content among young Angolans is fostering closer ties between the two countries, contributing to a mutual understanding and friendship.
