Luanda: The new Turkish ambassador, -zgr Uludz, expressed his intention to elevate cooperation between Angola and Turkey to a level that reflects both countries' potential. Speaking in Luanda after presenting his credentials to President Joo Louren§o, Uludz emphasized the need for expanded collaboration in areas of mutual interest, involving both government and business sectors.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the ambassador acknowledged the existing strong relations but stressed the necessity for further development. He stated, "We already have good relations, but it is not enough. We are not at the level we deserve." Uludz highlighted the importance of identifying priority sectors and initiating partnerships with Angolan entities as a primary objective of his diplomatic mission.
Uludz expressed optimism about achieving significant outcomes during his tenure, pointing to the friendly relations between both nations' peoples and governments. He noted, "The two peoples and governments are very friendly. We enjoy working with Angolan companies and with the Angolan government." He also underscored the strategic significance of enhancing ties, considering Angola's position in Southern Africa and Turkey's in the Eastern Mediterranean and Asia.
Efforts to strengthen cooperation span political, economic, commercial, business, and development sectors, reinvigorated by state visits in 2021. Turkey recognized Angola post-independence in 1975, with embassies established in Luanda and Ankara in 2010 and 2013, respectively. High-level visits occurred in 2021, with President Joo Louren§o visiting Turkey in July and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan traveling to Angola in October.
Economically, bilateral trade reached $125.8 million in 2024, with Turkey exporting various goods to Angola. Both nations aim to increase Turkish company involvement in Angola's construction, industry, production, and economic diversification sectors. Cooperation extends to development and education, facilitated by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency and the Trkiye Scholarships program, benefiting 63 Angolan students.
Politically, Turkey includes Angola in its Partnership with Africa policy, recognizing its importance as a continental partner. At the same credential presentation ceremony, President Joo Louren§o also received new ambassadors from the Republic of Korea, South Africa, Finland, and Botswana.
