Luanda – National Assembly Speaker Carolina Cerqueira said Friday that dialogue, tolerance and a sense of state should always guide Parliamentary life.
Angolan Parliament leader was addressing a Plenary after the unanimous approval of the Draft Resolution for the recomposition of the Bureau of the National Assembly for the V Legislature, under her proposal.
Carolina Cerqueira stressed that, with this act, the National Assembly takes another step towards stabilising the functioning of this V Legislature, for whom this was a win for all in the name of dialogue and moderation.
“Democracy is built with votes, with tolerance and with dialogue”, she stressed.
In her view, “this is the only way to build a democratically denser society and to feel fully represented by the body of sovereignty, which is the National Assembly”.
The Speaker considered a highlight of the V Legislature, “because with this election it can be considered that it is possible to find a common denominator among the parties, always prevailing common sense, moderation and responsibility”.
According to the Parliament leader, “as of today, the House of Democracy is institutionally complete in terms of its bodies and, with this act, there is a platform of institutional understanding that, respecting party differences, will work cohesively on behalf of the national interest “.
She was delighted with the initiative, which had the support of all the parties with a Parliamentary seat and led to positive demonstrations at various levels.
To her, the recognition by political agents and by civil society of the qualitative leap and maturity of the result that comes from the democracy of all Parliamentary groups, is a sign of trust among the various political actors.
For this mandate, Carolina Cerqueira said she had identified some matters that she considers priorities, which have as a background the centrality of Parliament in the political system, which requires from MPs, employees and Parliamentary agents an enormous responsibility, in the relationship with the citizens and with the other Institutions.
She stated that another aspect has to do with the conviction that citizens expect greater openness, transparency and scrutiny capacity from their Parliament.
She heralded, at the time, a Parliament that was more available and more present. “The House of Democracy may be the home of all and all Angolans”.
She said it was everyone’s wish that Angola be and continue to be a beacon of democratic reference for Africa and the world.
