STATE MINISTER POINTS AGOSTINHO NETO AS SYMBOL OF FREEDOM

Menongue – The minister of State for the Social Area, Carolina Cerqueira, affirmed, this Friday, in the Cuando Cubango, that the first President of the Republic, António Agostinho Neto, represents the biggest symbol of the freedom and the fight for the self-determination of Angola.

The Cabinet minister, who spoke in the central act of the commemorations of 99 anniversary, pointed out that Neto is also symbol and exponent of the Angolan culture, so that the new generations of Angolans should follow his path for the strengthening of the national identity and to preserve the genuine idiosyncrasy of all in the most diverse domains.

For Carolina Cerqueira, Agostinho Neto is beyond the political parties, because he represents the whole nation, a figure that each Angolan of good should follow.

In the opinion of the minister, it does not import the region, race, ethnic origin, religious creed or politics option for the Angolans to celebrate the centenarian of Agostinho Neto, that happens in 2022, with the dignity that deserves, exhorting the envolvement of all the society, with particular prominence for the civil organizations on the arts.

Carolina Cerqueira recalled that it was in Cuando Cubango that, with the battles of Cuito Cuanavale and the victory over the then South African racist army, were created the premises for the independence of Namibia, for the end of the apartheid regime and deep changes in South Africa and for the liberation of the Southern Africa region, factors that contributed to the development of Angola and the countries of the region.
