Luanda: The Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tarik Al Said, arrived in Luanda on Thursday for a 48-hour state visit, responding to an invitation from the President of the Republic, Joo Louren§o. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the visit takes place amidst burgeoning ties between Angola and Oman, with potential expansions in cooperation across various sectors, such as mining, energy, technology, tourism, agriculture, food security, transport, logistics, and ports.
The political and diplomatic relations between Angola and Oman were established on December 13, 2005, and have been developing positively, marked by regular high-level contacts and reinforced economic cooperation. A significant moment of rapprochement occurred in December 2024, when President Joo Louren§o officially visited the Sultanate of Oman, upon Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Said's invitation.
During that visit, the two leaders assessed the state of bilateral relations and identified new cooperation areas, focusing on the economic, trade, and investment sectors. Cooperation instruments were signed, including an agreement related to acquiring a stake in the Catoca and Luele diamond mining operations, and memoranda of understanding in energy and strategic financial initiatives.
President Joo Louren§o's visit opened opportunities for greater Omani investment in the Angolan economy and invigorated dialogue between Luanda and Muscat. The Sultan of Oman's current presence in Angola is expected to build upon the understandings reached previously and deepen cooperation opportunities in strategically significant areas for both economies.
