Cunene: The secretary of the Provincial Youth Council (CPJ) in Cunene, Aguinaldo Ngulana, stated this Wednesday that the Reconciliation Plan in Memory of the Victims of Political Conflicts (CIVICOP) represents a symbol of peace and national justice. According to Angola Press News Agency, Ngulana emphasized the importance of this initiative, noting its connection to the country's history and its role as a milestone for peace, justice, and national reconciliation. This plan has a significant impact on the generation born after the end of the civil war in 2002. Ngulana highlighted that the Angolan government's efforts have given families back the true meaning of their loved ones' deaths through the location and identification of human remains. He mentioned that this process not only awakens the past but also transforms collective grief into a connection focused on ensuring dignified burials and restoring human dignity to the families of the victims. He further acknowledged the initiative's potential to inspire young people to value democracy, political tolerance, national unity, and ongoing dialogue. Ngulana presented this as a practical and concrete example of healing for society, urging a profound reflection on the armed conflicts that occurred between 1975 and 2002. These reflections, he argued, should lead Angolans to a more united path toward social, economic, and sustainable development. The initiative is part of a broader effort led by the Commission for the Implementation of the Reconciliation Plan in Memory of the Victims of Political Conflicts (CIVICOP). This commission aims to restore dignity to the victims and provide families with symbolic and emotional closure. In a gesture of national remembrance, the President of the Republic, Joo Lourenço, declared May 22nd of this year as a day of national mourning in memory of the victims of the political conflicts from 1975 to 2002.
