Supreme Court Begins Adversarial Phase of Higino Carneiro’s Trial

Luanda: The Supreme Court began, this Wednesday, the adversarial phase of the trial involving retired General Higino Carneiro, accused by the Public Prosecutor's Office of the crimes of embezzlement and money laundering. The case relates to alleged acts committed during the period in which Higino Carneiro served as governor of the then province of Cuando Cubango. According to Angola Press News Agency, the defendant allegedly misused public funds intended for the social and economic development of the province. The Public Prosecutor's Office believes that the money was channeled into the construction and management of tourism and hotel developments for personal gain, to the detriment of planned social projects.
