Swiss multinational opens bases in Soyo, Viana to serve oil companies

Luanda – Clariant Oil Services, a world leader in supplying chemicals for oil field production, this month opened two units in Soyo (Zaire) and Viana (Luanda), bringing technical and operational capacity to the region.

With a 20-year track record in supplying local customers, the company this January directly supplied the first chemical to offshore customers from its Soyo base, a milestone for Clariant’s deepwater operations in Africa.

According to a publication by PetroAngola (oil and gas information provider) to which ANGOP had access today, the complex was built in an area of 3,400 square metres.

The infrastructure includes a laboratory, offices and a warehouse covered with decanting and filtering equipment, and processing capacity is expected to reach 1,000 tonnes per month.

The new facility at the Kwanda base, near Soyo, is next to the mouth of the Zaire River (Kwanza Island), a location designed to provide logistical support to oil and gas operations.

To meet the quality control (QC) requirements for chemical supply, the laboratory is fully equipped with all conventional methodologies, plus state-of-the-art infrared spectroscopy.

These resources will aid the efficient supply of chemicals for subsea applications and will also make it possible to meet all testing requirements.

Also according to the publication, construction of the Soyo facility was preceded by a warehouse and laboratory complex in Viana, which was commissioned and designed to support the expansion of business in the oil and gas industry in Angola.

Technical capabilities at the site include equipment to test demulsifiers, deoilers, oil and other oil-related products.

For QC, the lab can evaluate appearance, pH, specific gravity, viscosity, FT-IR fingerprinting, particle counts and non-volatile residues, among other analyses.
