Luanda: TAAG - Angola Airlines officially begins its commercial operations to Guangzhou, China, on June 23rd of this year, with a weekly frequency from Dr. Ant³nio Agostinho Neto International Airport (Icolo e Bengo province). The launch ceremony, held today, Tuesday in Luanda, with the sale of the first tickets, was led by the Minister of Transport, Ricardo Viegas de Abreu.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the new international route is seen by the national flag carrier as an important step in the expansion of its intercontinental network, allowing for closer ties between the Angolan and Chinese markets. The Luanda/Guangzhou route, with weekly frequency (initially) and a flight duration of approximately 13 hours, will be operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, with a capacity of 367 passengers, of which 343 are in economy class and 24 in business class.
TAAG emphasizes that the opening of the new route represents a strategic milestone in its international expansion plan and reinforces the company's positioning as a facilitator of connectivity between Africa and Asia, promoting the mobility of people, businesses, and goods between the two countries. China maintains a strong bilateral relationship with Angola, with a significant resident community presence, active business cooperation, and consolidated economic exchange in multiple strategic sectors. In addition to passenger transport, the Luanda-Guangzhou connection will facilitate trade, tourism, diplomatic travel, and cargo transport, sectors considered strategic for the economic dynamics between Angola and China.
The Guangzhou and vice versa route integrates the company's vision of consolidating a more competitive intercontinental network, capitalizing on the potential of the new Dr. Ant³nio Agostinho Neto International Airport as a regional and international connectivity platform, with the capacity to position Angola as a strategic hub on the African continent. Aides to the Head of the Executive Branch, diplomatic representatives from China, businesspeople, chambers of commerce, and entities linked to the civil aviation sector witnessed the ceremony.
