Luanda: The restructuring programme of TAAG - Angola Airlines has reached 53% overall completion, with 263 of the 698 planned targets achieved. In a statement issued following the company's second management meeting, which reviewed the ongoing transformation process, TAAG said the restructuring plan had reduced operating expenditure by USD 25.7 million.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the airline stated that the transformation programme, which comprises 53 strategic levers and 300 deliverables, aims to strengthen financial sustainability and optimise internal processes. In the financial sphere, indicators show expenditure execution USD 25.7 million below the approved budget, a result attributed to more disciplined management, tighter oversight, and enhanced cost control.
In addition, during the first half of the year, TAAG generated USD 19.2 million in operating cash flow, demonstrating a 'promising picture of organisational capacity and compliance with short- and medium-term financial commitments'. In the document sent to ANGOP, TAAG also highlighted the recovery and return to service of five aircraft, 'a fact that contributes to the progressive strengthening of the fleet's operational capacity'.
Regarding its commercial operations, the airline reported 30% growth in its African network, expanding from 10 to 13 destinations following approval for the launch of three new regional routes: Accra (Ghana), Dakar (Senegal), and Praia (Cabo Verde). The company also stressed that it is implementing a new planning and execution-monitoring framework through 'GO TAAG 360', a tool that enables the regular tracking of priorities, responsibilities, deadlines, and results across the organisation.
According to the statement, TAAG Chairman Cl³vis Rosa said the transformation of the national flag carrier should be assessed by the results achieved rather than by the initiatives launched or plans approved. For the executive, collective responsibility does not mean diluted accountability. 'Everyone knows their role, fulfils it and is accountable for it. This is the culture we need to strengthen,' he said.
The restructuring process of TAAG - Angola Airlines formally began in September 2018, when the Head of the Executive Branch decreed the transformation of the public company into a public limited company (TAAG, SA). Since then, the programme has progressed through several key stages, including the approval in 2019 of a restructuring plan focused primarily on modernising the aircraft fleet.
TAAG currently operates flights to 13 domestic and 12 international destinations. In addition to passenger transport, its fleet provides air cargo services, which play an important role in the development of the local logistics and economic ecosystem.
