Ondjiva: At least three people died and nine were injured as a result of a road accident that occurred on Monday night on National Highway 372, which connects Ondjiva to the commune of Ombala yu Mungu, Cunene province. The accident involved a passenger car traveling towards Ombala yu Mungu, which collided with a three-wheeled motorcycle that was broken down on the road. Lack of lighting, combined with excessive speed, are cited as the causes of the accident.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the clinical director of the Cunene General Hospital, Felisberto Lucala, confirmed the admission of nine patients who were victims of this incident. Of the patients received, a 16-year-old girl died five minutes later, having presented hemorrhagic shock due to polytrauma resulting from injuries to her thigh and fractures of her pelvis and femur.
The clinical director also stated that two patients, a six-month-old child and a 43-year-old woman, require careful monitoring and are under the neurosurgeon's care before being admitted to the operating room. Felisberto Lucala added that the other patients will remain under observation for less than 24 hours, as they are stable after complementary examinations.
Dama ya Dama, chief of the Oshimbala locality, highlighted that the road experiences many accidents, especially at night, where many three-wheeled motorcycles circulate, some without lights, as well as vehicles traveling at high speed. He noted that in less than two weeks, this is the second accident in the area, resulting in five deaths.
During the first quarter of this year, Cunene recorded 108 traffic accidents, resulting in 16 deaths and 147 injuries, 14 more accidents compared to the same period of the previous year.
