Three Nominees Elected for Attorney General of the Republic Position in Angola

Luanda: The High Council of the Public Prosecutor's Office (CSMMP) elected, on Monday, the three candidates with the most votes for the position of Attorney General of the Republic of Angola. According to the voting results, the list includes magistrates Gilberto Mizaque, Pedro Mendes de Carvalho, and Mota Liz. According to Angola Press News Agency, among the three most voted nominees, one will be chosen by the President of the Republic, Joo Lourenço, to assume the position of Attorney General of the Republic, replacing Hélder Pitta Grós. In the vote held by the CSMMP, there was a technical tie between Gilberto Mizaque and Pedro Mendes de Carvalho, both with 12 votes, while Mota Liz obtained 10 votes. The process, in which seven candidates participated, falls within the legal mechanism that establishes the presentation of candidates by the superior body of the Public Prosecutor's Office, with the Head of State subsequently choosing and appointing the new leader of the Attorney General's Office. The act foll ows the communication made by Hélder Pitta Gróz to the plenary of the body, in which he informed of his decision to leave the position of Attorney General of the Republic and president of the Superior Council of the Public Prosecutor's Office. According to the regulations approved by the Plenary, the electoral process is conducted by an Electoral Commission that operates alongside the Superior Council of the Public Prosecutor's Office, composed of five members appointed by the Plenary.
