Angola and DRC Plan Strategies to Boost Economic Cooperation

Luanda: Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo discussed strategies aimed at boosting bilateral economic cooperation this Monday, during a preparatory meeting of the Interministerial Commission between the two countries. The meeting, held virtually, was chaired by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Rui Miguªns de Oliveira, and included the participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, T©te Ant³nio.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the commission members analyzed the proposed Economic Agreement between the governments of Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo, an instrument that aims to establish a more comprehensive framework for cooperation between the two states. The document addresses areas such as trade in goods and services, investments, transport, logistics, industrial cooperation, and the development of border regions, also providing for institutional mechanisms to strengthen coordination between the authorities of the two countries and facilitate economic exchange.

The meeting also allowed for the preparation of the technical basis for negotiation that will serve as a reference for dialogue with the Congolese counterpart in the next bilateral negotiation sessions. Members of the Angolan Government also participated in the meeting, including the Ministers of Health, S­lvia Lutucuta, Fisheries and Marine Resources, Carmen do Sacramento Neto, the Ministers of Planning, Victor Hugo Guilherme, and Tourism, M¡rcio Daniel.

The initiative was part of the two governments' strategy to strengthen the legal instruments that underpin bilateral cooperation, with particular attention to sectors considered essential for strengthening economic and trade relations. Angola-DRC Interministerial Commission is a mechanism for coordination between the two countries to address matters of common interest, with emphasis on the economic, commercial and regional domains.
