Transport and Tourism Partnership to Accelerate Economic Diversification in Angola

Luanda: The Minister of Transport, Ricardo de Abreu, stated on Friday that the transport and tourism sectors in Angola are strengthening their partnership to boost the diversification of the national economy by enhancing connectivity and accessibility. According to Angola Press News Agency, the collaborative efforts of the two ministries aim to achieve new levels of growth, with tourism identified as a key area to improve the balance of payments and bolster net international reserves. Ricardo de Abreu highlighted the government's investment in modernizing essential infrastructure, notably the international airport, which has exceeded one million passengers with its full commercial air services. He further mentioned that the certification process for the country's airports is ongoing, focusing on Catumbela Airport in Benguela Province, Mukanka Airport in Huíla Province, and Welwitschia Mirabilis Airport in Namibe Province, to ensure international flights to tourist destinations. The minister also pointed out the development of specialized terminals for cruise ships in Luanda, Lobito (Benguela), and Namibe, catering to the luxury international tourism sector's demands. The minister noted that tourism contributes approximately 9% to the global GDP, which increases to 12% when including the travel sector.
