Luanda: The Angolan president, Joo Louren§o, on Saturday warned of the worsening global crises in security, humanitarian affairs, energy, food, and climate. The Angolan Head of State expressed this during his opening speech at the 14th Summit of the Organization of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OACPS).
According to Angola Press News Agency, Joo Louren§o stated that the world has become like a jungle, where superpowers invoke rights that do not exist under International Law, citing the example of Iraq and ongoing tensions in Iran. He emphasized that the world is struggling to withstand the worsening crises, which he attributes to irresponsible human actions, affecting various sectors such as maritime navigation, international air transport, tourism, and international trade.
Louren§o highlighted that the logistics chain of essential components and raw materials is on the verge of collapse, signaling that the global economy is at serious risk of entering a deep recession. He posed a critical question on who would take responsibility for what he described as an ongoing catastrophe, urging for immediate action to change the current global situation.
The Angolan president called for an end to wars in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, stressing the need for the 79-nation Organization to have an active role in addressing major global issues. He underscored the importance of ensuring that their perspectives are included in the search for solutions to threats against world security and peace.
The summit, which aims to strengthen cooperation, peace, and sustainable development among member states, also marked the transition of the Presidency of the OACPS from Joo Louren§o to Equatorial Guinea's Teodoro Obiang Nguema.
