Luanda – The Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres Monday acknowledged the leadership and commitment of the Angolan Head of State João Lourenço to promoting dialogue, peace and security in Africa.
António Guterres expressed the recognition at a meeting he held with Angolan Foreign minister, Téte António, at the United Nations headquarters, in New York, United States of America (US).
In a press note, the Angolan Foreign minister states that the United Nations boss stressed the President João Lourenço’s commitment to pursuing a peaceful solution to the tension in the Great Lakes region.
The document adds that Guterres reiterated appreciation of the UN/Angola “long partnership” and expressed availability to work with the Angolan government on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda.
Minister Téte António announced Angola’s intention to present candidates for the position of United Nations Resident Coordinator.
Meeting with Amina Mohammed
In New York, the Angolan top diplomat, Téte António, also discussed on Monday the peace and security in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with the UN deputy secretary-general, Amina Mohammed.
The meeting discussed the issues relating to the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) held in Luanda on 6-10 December as well as the UN reforms.
