Luanda – The leader of Angola’s major opposition party UNITA, Adalberto Costa Junior, said Tuesday that his organisation will put on top of its agenda the debates about the State Budget (OGE) in the first year of the 5th parliament legislature.
The UNITA leader was speaking to the press at the end of an audience granted to him by the National Assembly Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira.
“We’ll, for sure, have a better participation in the hemicycle (parliament), thinking about Angola and, in an immediate phase, on the issue of the General State Budget”, the politician said.
The UNITA leader informed that his party would like to see a State General Budget that privileges education and health so that the goals which the country committed itself to respect can be fulfilled at the regional and continental levels.
The politician added that the issue of education is strategic and that the future is built with competent cadres, who must be given priority in the governance area.
Adalberto da Costa added that for this legislative year, UNITA will also put into action the main concerns regarding the inspection of the Executive’s acts.
The UNITA leader explained that since the party has expanded its representation in parliament, it will enable them to have better presence within the country and in specialty commissions of the Nationa Assembly.
Adalberto Costa Junior and the National Assembly Speaker also addressed the dispute over the composition of the National Assembly Board, with UNITA demanding the position of the 2nd vice-speaker of the house of laws to be attributed to this party.
“We also talked about the fact that we don’t have the Bureau of the National Assembly composed. As you know, there is a process that was directed to the Constitutional Court (TC)”, said the politician, appealing to this institution not to delay too much in deciding about this dispute over the position of second vice- speaker of the National Assembly.
The politician reminded that, in 1992, UNITA, with 70 deputies, elected the vice-speaker of the parliament and that now that the party has 90 MPs, the ruling MPLA occupied the 1st and the 2nd speaker positions, which, as the politician put it, is not a good example for reconciliation and democratic openness.
The politician also considered the National Assembly to be a gateway for common dialogue to be able to discuss the real country.
“We came, first of all, to share and leave some fundamental elements and the fundamental challenges that we would like to see materialised for the good of Angola and Angolans,” the politician said.
