UNITA leader saddened by former President dos Santos’ death

Luanda – The president of the main opposition party UNITA, Adalberto Costa Júnior, Friday in Luanda said that he was saddened by the death of former President of the Republic José Eduardo dos Santos, who died this morning in the Kingdom of Spain due to an illness.

“At a time like this, it is time to be able to express and address to the family and to all Angolans our feelings of regret,” he told the press on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of a meeting between his party and the Right wing Democratic International (IDC).

He stressed the commitment of José Eduardo dos Santos in the search for peace, stressing that it was always possible to explore bridges of dialogue between his party and the then Head of State, which made it possible to end the war twenty years ago.

In observance of the period of national mourning, UNITA suspended its activities scheduled for the next five days.

José Eduardo dos Santos was President of the Republic of Angola from 1979 to 2017 and until the date of his death was president emeritus of the MPLA.
