UNITEL Faces Major Service Disruptions Following Cyberattack

Luanda: The Mobile phone operator UNITEL suffered a cyberattack on its technological infrastructure starting from the early hours of Tuesday (28), impacting voice services, mobile data, and Internet access throughout the national territory. According to Angola Press News Agency, in a statement, the operator reported that response and containment mechanisms were immediately activated, and technical and cybersecurity teams were mobilized, continuing to work to mitigate the effects of the incident and ensure the full restoration of services. At present, the operator notes, services remain restricted, whilst all actions necessary for the stabilization and full resumption of the network are ongoing. The company added that it is monitoring the situation with the utmost priority and will continue to provide relevant information on its evolution through official channels. "We regret the constraints caused and thank our customers for their understanding and trust," the statement concluded. UNITEL, considered Angola 's largest mobile operator, was floated on the stock exchange on the 6th of the current month as part of the Initial Public Offer, which ran until the 24th.
