Huambo: Pereira Alfredo, a member of the Political Bureau of the MPLA party, has officially formalized his candidacy for the position of first secretary of the MPLA in Huambo Province. This move is part of the broader Organic Process for the party's upcoming 9th Ordinary Congress. According to Angola Press News Agency, Alfredo's candidacy was submitted by Amilton da Gama, his representative, to the Candidacies Subcommittee of the Provincial Preparatory Commission. The submission included over three thousand signatures, surpassing the required two thousand five hundred, as mandated by the party's candidacy guidelines. Amilton da Gama stated that the formalization occurred precisely 15 days following the announcement of the Provincial Conference for Review and Renewal of Mandates on July 7. This aligns with the regulations that stipulate candidacies must be formalized within this timeframe. The requirements for candidacy include an individual file with personal documents and proof of over three thousand suppo rting signatures. The individual file for Alfredo's candidacy also comprises essential documents such as his Identity Card, MPLA membership card, criminal record certificate, and proof of paid membership fees since 2024, the year he initially assumed the position. Additionally, the file includes an action plan outlining strategic priorities in various areas critical to the party's mission and operations. The action plan focuses on organization, mobilization, communication, and marketing, among other areas. Amilton da Gama also noted that the 14th Ordinary Conference for Review and Renewal of Mandates in Huambo is set for October 10, with 815 delegates expected to attend. Prior to this, municipal conferences will commence on August 1 in Ecunha. The MPLA, established on December 10, 1956, will commemorate its 70th anniversary in 2026. The party's 9th Ordinary Congress is scheduled for December 9 and 10 in Luanda. It serves as the highest decision-making body, setting the party's political and strategic direc tion for the upcoming cycle and electing central leadership. As part of the preparation for the congress, the MPLA is conducting the Organic Process, which involves various assemblies and conferences to assess party structures, renew mandates, and elect delegates, in line with party statutes and guiding documents. The upcoming conference in Huambo is a significant milestone in this provincial process leading up to the 9th Ordinary Congress.
